It seems that House Bill 801 has a flaw in the grandfather portion of the bill. There is no provision for people who are in limbo. These people were doing inspections before the July 1st 2000 deadline but can not meet the standards set in the bill for grandfathering either because of insufficient number of inspections or lack of time doing inspections.

The General law committee has been inundated by complaints from such individuals and it has gotten to the point that Representative Walter Pawelkiewicz (Walter.Pawelkiewicz@PO.State.CT.US) out of Windsor CT has even introduced the attached Raised Bill LCO 3035 which would do away with any requirement for grandfathering other than you have done an inspection prior to July 1, 2000 for some form of compensation.

Obviously this is not the answer to the situation.

Home inspectors are not the first profession to be licensed by the state. These hurtles have had to have been overcome in the past and now it is time to draw on those experiences and maintain the integrity of House Bill 801.

You must contact your senators and representative and the General law committee to voice your concerns.

There is the possibility that this situation could unfold as soon as February 6th., the next scheduled public hearing for the General Law committee so time is of the essence!
