TROUBLE IS BREWING ON CAPITAL HILL !!!!!
It seems that House Bill 801 has a flaw in the grandfather portion of the bill. There is no provision for people who are in limbo. Radon Protocols Reminder:
Both Chapters of ASHI had heated discussions last year about the need to be consistent and appropriate with following the EPA protocols or not testing. Remember that the homeowner should be advised to close all the homes doors and windows at least 12 hours before starting the test. That the device should be placed in the lowest potential living space and the home should remain closed for the next 48 hours. Tests that are performed with windows open, basement closed only, or started with windows open will not meet the protocols and may invalidate the readings. Your reputation as a testing service may be compromised if others hear your tests do not follow the EPA guidelines. Advise your clients and agents that when circumstances are inappropriate or difficult re-testing should be done at a later date when the home can be closed. Some of us will recommend not testing if it is too hot and air conditioners are not available for the resident to seek relief. Let's remember something that typically requires a thousand dollar mitigation is not worth torturing some elderly resident in the middle of summer. Use common sense on your testing procedures, please follow the protocols.
